Some of the finest films of our lifetime include movies about seniors. Often they include our mortality as a central theme, older adults finding true love at last, living out their final wishes, rekindling youth, or – preparing to say goodbye.
In making this list of movies, it became hard to decipher what is a movie about seniors versus a movie that includes seniors. There are many gray (no pun intended) areas here. We’ve covered caregiver movies before, even Alzheimer’s movies. Those are easier to identify.
What I wanted to achieve here is a list of movies that are unique to the subject of aging. This is in contrast to a movie that just might include an older actor/actress who represents an older generation. The movies I wanted to collect here involve aging itself – reflection and mortality.
Some of these movies may leave you reaching for the Kleenex and leave you feeling… existentially depressed. Others will make you laugh. Also, if you’re interested in the actors themselves, check out our article on the 20 oldest male actors who keep going strong.
Most importantly – I need your help! This will never be a “complete” list, because 1) I’m sure I’ve missed some movies, and 2) they’re making new movies every year.
Help me keep this list current and complete. If there is a movie you know of that should be included but that I’ve left out – please leave a comment on the article with the movie’s title. So long as it fits the “aging” genre, I’ll add it to the list.
Many thanks!

I have viewed cable movies since 1998, because at 70 was when I realized I was old & should retire. I can name from memory 3 dozen male stars who should stop accepting scripts because they no longer cannot perform. Hear are their faults i.e. body language, voices, walking , climbing stairs & face. ! Money cannot ruin years of acting.
Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont, my favorite film of all time. Joan Plowright and Rupert Friend.
